This year’s festival will be held from 21st – 28th June
We are going to be running a hybrid festival this year. For those who want to enjoy SERET UK 2021 on the big screen, we will show our programme across cinemas in six different cities: London, Edinburgh, Oxford, Cambridge, Brighton and City of Culture Liverpool. We’ve partnered with Picture House for all locations, and in London, we will also be at the JW3 and the Phoenix East Finchley.
If you’d rather watch at home, you can pay for and download every film through our website too. And we have a range of packages so you can enjoy just one film, or several, to watch during the Festival.
10th Anniversary Special Segments
To mark our tenth anniversary, as well as a host of new films, we have three special Festival segments:
Yes, Prime Ministers!
Our focus on Israel’s dynamic, passionate and idiosyncratic Prime Ministers over the past seven decades. From Ben-Gurion, Meir, Begin and Rabin to Netanyahu, each of these five Prime Ministers sought acceptance and security for Israel during their time in office.
We have five documentaries that feature enlightening interviews, some never seen on the screen before, and revealing investigation into the lives and careers of these individuals. They had widely-differing political, religious and cultural views, yet a single commitment to establishing a voice for the State of Israel and its people across the world.
100 Meters Apart – 4 short films
During the COVID-19 lockdown in Israel, no-one, other than key workers and for essential journeys, could move further than 100 meters from their front door.
At this time of restriction, under very difficult conditions and with no idea of what the future would bring, Kastina Communications produced real time short films with 12 prominent film makers, creating a touching anthology.
SERET has selected five of these short films, each of which expresses a unique response to the challenges which everyone throughout the world has been confronted with over the past 18 months.
Alongside the screenings of these short films we are delighted to be able to show the Oscar nominated short White Eye.
Celebrating 10 years of SERET UK – Our Favourite Films
It’s taken a lot of discussion to select just three films from the hundreds we’ve screened over the past ten years but we’ve made our choice.
We will be bringing back An Israeli Love Story, Fill the Void, and Tel Aviv on Fire.
They were wonderful when they came out, and they’re definitely still up there on our list of the best Israeli movies ever made. We’re sure you will be very happy to have the chance to see them again.
